Spirited History

We had the pleasure of talking to Co-author Dr. Jerry McDonald about his book "Indian Mounds of the Middle Ohio Valley, A guide to the Sacred Mounds and Earthworks of the Adena, Hopewell, Cole and Fort Ancient People." Earthworks and mounds are found throughout North America and are one of the few visible treasures left of these proud people. Preservation and understanding of these sites is vital to understanding the culture, history and geography of these mound building societies and what life may have been like some 3000 years ago.

We had the pleasure of being joined by two lovely women and authors; Ellen Dugan and Marla Brooks; to talk about some of the lore and history surrounding one of our favorite holidays. Halloween or Samhain, is thought of as a time of death and spooky apparitions, but what is the real history of this ancient holiday? Join us and discover some truths and learn a thing or two about where Halloween came from.

Please join us as we explore a 300-year-old gristmill that is believed to be the oldest in the country. This amazing historic site has seen many periods of history from Revolutionary War to the Civil War. On Dec. 2nd 1965 the mill was converted to The Swift Creek Mill Playhouse.

We were fortunate to be the first paranormal team to investigate this lovely historic site. We will share our current findings and experiences from our investigation.

Our travels for this podcast brought us to upstate New York for two wonderful locations.

Our first stop was Rolling Hills in Bethany NY, unfortunately now closed, this building is a treasure trove of paranormal activity. It is rare to find such a historically significant site where not only do the owners embrace the spirits but they open their doors to other paranormal researchers to come and investigate, hoping to find answers to one of the greatest wonders of life...what happens when it is over?
Our second investigation took place in the glorious arms of the Hudson Valley on the eastern side of New York. Nestled in the hills of Napanoch New York, Sal and Cindy have rescued a piece of history and are lovingly restoring it to it's original state. Sal joins us as we talk about the Shanley and some of the guest that may have decided to not check out.

Join us as we travel to the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Found on a picturesque hill in Louisville Kentucky this Sanatorium was at it's time a modern marvel of advanced techniques for Tuberculosis patients. Though some of theses treatments may seem barbaric to our modern eyes the patients cared for at the Waverly were receiving the most up to date care of their time. Now this enormous structure that was the finally destination for many stands empty... or does it, you be the judge as we talk with Rev Tim Shaw, Tommy Jones and share our own experiences of Waverly Hills.

In honor of the Ft Mifflin event this past weekend we decided to re-visit our interview with Lee Anderson the Executive Director and Fort Historian of Fort Mifflin, we talk about some of the history of the Fort that saved America; Fort Mifflin! In the second half Laurie Hull and Mary Gasparo join us to talk about some of the spirits that may be found in and around the Fort.

The charming Mr. LaChance stops in to chat about The Morse Mill Project and this amazingly historic and haunted location. Steven is the author of the chilling true life account of his experiences living in the Screaming Union house "The Uninvited". We are also joined by the "Landlord of the Creepy" Patrick Sheehan. He is the owner of the Morse Mill and has some great stories about happenings in the old hotel since he has acquired it. So please join us as we delve in to some of the happenings of Morse Mill.

We got a chance to sit back and chat with the multi-talented Kurt Smith from Peach State Paranormal and PIR @ Para-X.com. We talked about several of his favorite investigations at some Historic and Spirited sites. Rev Tim Shaw drops in to talk about Wilderness Battlefield and some of the history and spirits that inhabit the old battlefield. As always we had a fab time talking with Rev Tim and truly enjoy listening to his great stories. We talk a little shop about some terms used during the civil war and also give some history to the battle that was such an important part of the Norths push to Richmond.

We are joined my Lisa Whitfield the Education Coordinator of the Smith McDowell house in Ashland, NC. This beautiful estate has been loveingly restored to period with the donations from many of the relatives who's families ones lived in this grand house. We had the pleasure of spending several hours investigating this treasure in historic Ashland, and hope you join us as we explore this beautiful home and some of it's past and present residents.

We were honored to talk with Leah Taylor owner and resident of the Potter School in Bodega Bay, California. Built in the 1873; it was the school for generations of children growing up in Bodega and a meeting place for many social events in the community. It may be most famous for its used in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 movie "The Birds"; in which it was saved from demolition. Purchased in 1966 by Leah's parents, both educators who feel in love with the classic schoolhouse building. Classified as a classic haunt by the Organization for Scientific Investigative Research, join us as we discuss with Leah what she feels about the school and gives us a glimpse into this charming site.

We had a wonderful time talking to Rosemary about shadow people, RTC devices and much more. She is the author of 41 books and countless articles on the paranormal ranging from angels to vampires and all sorts of great stuff in between! During this podcast we visit with Kim Hammond about the Point Lookout Lighthouse in Scotland, MD. This historic site was established in 1830 to help protect ships from the rocky shores of Maryland. Not only does the lighthouse have a long history but during the Civil War the land surrounding was used to hold captured prisoners of war and as a hospital. Please sit back and enjoy the show.

Join us as we explore Preston Castle in Ione, CA. Preston School of Industry was established by the State Legislature to help rehabilitate young boys rather than simply imprisoning them as juvenile offenders. It opened on June 13, 1894 and closed its doors in the 1960's. Over the years it has fallen into disrepair until the Preston Castle Foundation started it's rehabilataion in 2001.

Climb aboard the last all sail warship built by the US Navy still afloat as we guide you through some of it's spirited history.

The Poe Museum is located in Richmond, VA. A characteristic building that has seen a city build up around it. The site itself was never home to Edgar Allen Poe and is fondly called the Little Stone House.
